CSLEA president extends opportunity to work with hospital police
Date: 11/17/2009
In two separate stories in the Riverside Press Enterprise, San Bernardino County Supervisor Neil Derry questions whether the specially trained, peace officers at Patton State Hospital are indeed what they in reality actually are--police officers.
In the first story (second link below), Derry even goes as far as to all them "rent-a-cops." In a later story (first link below), he backs off a bit, but then questions if they are as effective as another law enforcement agency.
In a letter to Derry, (attached below) CSLEA President Alan Barcelona sets the supervisor straight about just whom these officers are. Barcelona also extends an opportunity for Derry to work with HPAC and CSLEA is properly compensating and equipping hospital police, not only at Patton, but at all 12 state hospitals run by the departments of Mental Health and Developmental Services.
