On Monday, May 20, 2013, the California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) joined the California Professional Firefighters and the Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC) at an event in support of re-electing Attorney General Kamala Harris.
"Attorney General Harris has demonstrated a remarkable commitment to law enforcement officers throughout the state and her office has been open and willing to work with CSLEA regarding issues that impact our members," said CSLEA President Alan Barcelona. "We look forward to her re-election."
Attorney General Harris most recently backed SB 140 by Senator Mark Leno. SB 140 allocates $24 million to the Department of Justice (DOJ) to hire dozens of additional special agents to seize assault weapons and other firearms from convicted felons and individuals with serious mental illnesses, people who, by law, are not permitted to own firearms.
"We were very pleased with the success of the event and the attendance of law enforcement associations from throughout the state," said PORAC President Ron Cottingham. "This was made possible with the assistance of the event co-sponsors like CSLEA."
