On Wednesday August 28, 2013, the California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) Board of Directors voted to send the 2013-2016 CSLEA Tentative Agreement (TA) to the membership for a ratification vote.
The ballots were sent out via first class mail immediately following the Board's vote. Each full CSLEA member is entitled to cast a vote for or against the TA. Eligible members will receive a Summary Of The 2013-2016 CSLEA Tentative Agreement, a ballot, a ballot envelope and a postage paid return envelope. In order for a vote to be counted, you must print your name and last four digits of your SSN on the exterior of the ballot envelope. Ballots must arrive at CSLEA Headquarters in Sacramento by September 13, 2013.
"There are some major things in this deal you want," CSLEA Legislative Consultant and former Director of Finance for the State of California Craig Brown told the Board. "This provides security against increasing health care premium costs and will offset some the additional pension costs enacted by the Legislature. We worked as hard as we could with the framework we were dealt."
In a letter to members, CSLEA President Alan Barcelona wrote, "It became evident that a deal was going to have to be reached before the Legislature recessed or CSLEA would not be in a position to have a contract ratified until after the Legislature reconvened next January. Therefore, the TA was reached which will provide across-the-board cost-of-living increases to the entire bargaining unit, some special salary adjustments to a few classifications, and preservation of the cost sharing of future health benefit premium increases."
