SACRAMENTO - The California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) is in support of Senate Bill 6 Parole: medical parole: compassionate release (Galgiani).
"SB 6 would keep a prisoner who has been convicted of killing a peace officer behind bars and not allow him or her to be freed on medical parole or compassionate release," said CSLEA President Alan Barcelona.
Currently, a person convicted of murder of a peace officer is eligible to petition for compassionate release if he/she is terminally ill with an incurable condition that would result in death within six months and medical release if that person is permanently medically incapacitated and in need of 24-hour medical attention. SB 6 would ensure that felons convicted of murdering sworn peace officers remain in prison and finish out their sentences.
