CHP Public Safety Dispatcher New Employee Orientation

chp-psdaWEST SACRAMENTO-  There is a lot of information to process when someone  is training to become a CHP Public Safety Dispatcher.  In addition to learning the job, there is also a new state employee learning curve to negotiate.   That's why California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) Member Services Representatives George Pina and Marco Castro joined CHP-Public Safety Dispatchers Association (CHP-PSDA) Vice President Victor Tovar at the CHP Academy in West Sacramento on September 21, 2015 to introduce themselves to new CHP Public Safety Dispatchers.

Together, the three conducted a new employee orientation to brief eight new CHP Public Safety Dispatchers on the services and benefits available to them as full members of CHP-PSDA and CSLEA.

"It is so very important that our new dispatchers know and understand the benefits of full CSLEA and CHP-PSDA membership," said Tina Brazil, CSLEA Senior Vice President and CHP-PSDA President.  "None of our dispatchers ever expects to need legal representation for situations that might arise on the job,  but, given the nature of our  jobs,  it is important to have access to it.   Full membership means  immediate contact with an attorney, legal representation, and a legal defense fund.   It also provides a $15,000 life insurance policy, and membership discounts on thousands of items, services, entertainment and venues nationwide."

"These are all very important items  that employees new to Bargaining Unit 7 need to know, " said CSLEA President Alan Barcelona.  "Not everyone is familiar with the day to day functions of a labor association or why you want to be a part of one.  We become a partner in our members' careers and we want our members to know we are here to meet their needs.  No member should ever hesitate to contact us.  I'd like to thank our member services department for assisting those new to Bargaining Unit 7 in the orientation process."
