On Thursday, October 30, 2015, California Bureau of Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) agents joined the San Rafael Police Department's Street Crimes Unit (SCU) and Special Operations Bureau (SOU) to conduct an undercover operation in the downtown area specifically targeting drug dealers. That undercover operation resulted in the arrests of four suspected drug dealers.
Two San Rafael transients, Ryan Scott Grimes and Augustus Orrick Rasmussen, both 23, were arrested after allegedly selling marijuana to an undercover officer at the downtown transit center. Officers seized a scale, packaging material and cash from Rasmussen.
A transient from San Francisco, Daniel James Jones, 40, was also arrested of allegedly selling marijuana to an undercover officer. Richard Jones, 62, a transient from San Rafael was arrested after he allegedly agreed to sell methamphetamine to an undercover officer. When SRPD uniformed officers attempted to take Jones into custody, he resisted arrest and threw a baggie of methamphetamine to the ground. He was arrested and booked for offering to sell methamphetamine to an undercover officer and for resisting arrest.
"No neighborhood, no law-abiding citizen should be subjected to drug dealing and the illegal activity it attracts," said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona. "Our CSLEA members who are agents with Alcoholic Beverage Control target crimes and criminals that drag down neighborhoods and make them unsafe for children to play in and adults to live and work in. ABC agents routinely join other law enforcement agencies to combat illegal drug and alcohol use, illegal gambling, prostitution, gangs and gang violence. They are an asset to California and to the law enforcement agencies they team with."
