CHICO – Halloween may have been on a Monday, but the celebrations in Chico began on Friday and to maintain public safety, Chico police welcomed additional enforcement help from California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) agents and CHP officers. During the “Halloween Operational Period,” from October 28-31, 2016, officers arrested 53 people and issued 59 citations.
“California Alcoholic Beverage Control agents excel at identifying underage drinking, drug use, and DUI. They know the ins and outs of crowd control, and that’s why they are so beneficial during these types of enforcement periods,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona.
Chico police report receiving 1,616 calls for service during the four-day period, with law enforcement officers dispatched to 824 of those calls. Thirty-nine people were cited for being minors in possession of alcohol, 20 received traffic citations. Of the 53 arrests, 48 were misdemeanors, five were felonies.
