“CSLEA values every one of its members and works diligently to protect, enhance and defend their livelihoods. The CSLEA Board deemed this dues adjustment necessary to address CSLEA operating costs, expenses related to a top-performing legal division, and the anti-pension & right-to-work battles that are very much ahead of us. The CSLEA directors never take a dues adjustment lightly, as we too, are all dues paying members of CSLEA.” – Alan Barcelona, CSLEA President
SACRAMENTO – On July 1, 2017, California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) membership dues were adjusted to support rising operating expenses and the Political Action Committee (PAC) fund which gives CSLEA its strength to successfully support legislation that is beneficial to its members and oppose legislation that is not. In addition, sworn members of CSLEA will see an adjustment in Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) dues.
CSLEA has been efficient in its operations. In 2004, CSLEA employed a Director of Administrative Services, three attorneys, five labor representatives, two legal secretaries, a Membership Coordinator and two receptionists. Over the years, CSLEA has streamlined its operations by eliminating the Director of Administrative Services and one of the legal secretary positions. CSLEA converted three of the five labor representative positions to attorneys and eliminated the other two. CSLEA also combined the Membership Coordinator and Headquarter Receptionist positions and recently went to a VOIP phone system which allowed CSLEA to eliminate the receptionist position in the Southern California office. This resulted in a net reduction of six full-time positions.
Per the CSLEA constitution (Article 13, Section 3), a membership dues-increase occurs when membership receives a salary increase in a percentage equal to the salary increase.
As of July 1, 2017, CSLEA membership dues will increase by 3 percent which amounts to $2.30 a month. CSLEA directors also approved an adjustment of $2.00 to PAC and $2.00 to FOP. The approved adjustments total $4.30 more a month for non-sworn members and $6.30 more a month for sworn members.
The directors unanimously agreed that this adjustment is prudent for the successful operation of CSLEA.
