CSLEA 2019 Membership Conference March 8-9, 2019 General membership address followed by question and answer session, classes designed for membership, evening receptions & grand prize raffle

SACRAMENTO – The California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) and its 17 affiliate associations are holding an event that CLSEA members will not want to miss.

“March 8-9th  is the time to join us in Oxnard at the Embassy Suites Mandalay Beach Hotel & Resort to meet with our CSLEA directors, affiliate directors and our staff of attorneys,” said CSLEA President Alan Barcelona.  “We are all available to you year-round, but this event brings us all – directors, attorneys, and our members- together in one location to ask and answer questions, continue our research and strategy for contract negotiations, get to know one another better, and to learn more about CalPERS retirement, social security, ENDI, and site representation.   Please review the schedule below, including evening receptions and grand prize raffle.  We know that together we are stronger. I look forward to seeing you.”

8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

General Membership Session

Presentations by CSLEA President Alan Barcelona and Chief Counsel Kasey Clark - also present: affiliate presidents and CSLEA legal staff

Topics include:

  • My union, My choice – unions past and present and member involvement,
  • Contract negotiations overview,
  • How members can contribute to contract negotiations,
  • What to expect in terms of updates during negotiations,
  • Ratification process.

 

10:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

CalPERS Retirement Class

It’s what we all work toward, retirement!  But how do you go about it?  What’s the procedure, what should you know as you work toward retirement? The earlier you develop an understanding of your benefits, the more prepared you'll be to make good decisions and develop a plan for your financial future.

1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Social Security

Learn what you can expect from social security and how it pertains to public safety employees.

 

2:45 p.m. – 4:15 p.m.

Know Your Rights

Instructors: CSLEA Senior Counsel Ryan Navarre, Counsel Stacy Olsen, CHP-PSDA Directors Gina Walls and Alana Haddock, Allstate Representative Jay McDonnell 

CSLEA attorneys discuss employee rights including ENDI and NDI, employee investigations, personnel files and write-ups.  This will be a question and answered session.  Also included in this class is a special presentation featuring basic estate planning.

 

7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

CSLEA Affiliate-Hosted Reception

Come join us for a fun evening together with complimentary evening snacks and beverages, no-host bar.

Advanced Site Rep Training 
Instructors: CSLEA Supervising Counsel Dave De La Riva, Senior Counsels Jim Vitko & Andrea Perez

Training for site reps who have been through basic site rep training, and a great refresher  course for advanced site reps.

10:45 a.m. – 12:15

Site Representation - The Power of the Site Rep
Instructors: CHP-PSDA President Tina Brazil and Directors Alana Haddock and DeVon Young

This class will provide motivation and insight into the site representative's ability to defend their collegues and promote  strength in standing together.  This class is highly suggested fo all current and aspiring site reps.

2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Tactical Communication, How to Deal with Difficult People

Instructors: Kenny & Christine Ehrman (DMV Investigators)

This class teaches DMV Licensing Registration Examiners  (LREs) how to stay calm and professional under verbal assault and how to generate voluntary compliance from even the most difficult people. This course will enhance your personal safety and promote public confidence. Designed for DMV LREs but all CSLEA members are invited. 

 

7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

CSLEA Hosted Dinner and Raffle
Come join us for dinner with no-host bar and keep your fingers crossed for becoming the winner of one of our raffle prizes, including the grand raffle prize.
