CSLEA and CalHR continue to make progress towards a new collective bargaining agreement. The parties held a negotiations session on June 22nd, and yesterday, June 29th, CSLEA Chief Counsel and Negotiations Spokesperson Kasey Clark and CalHR Labor Relations Officer Lily Cervantes had a phone conference to help define CLSEA’s priorities and the path for moving forward to resolution.
Although a new agreement will not be in place prior to the expiration of the current MOU, pay increases are generally retroactive to the commencement date. (The parties did not reach agreement on the expiring MOU until the end of August 2019). Although the current MOU will expire on July 1st, all terms remain in full force and effect until a new agreement is ratified.
CSLEA remains optimistic an agreement will be reached in the near future. However, the most important goal is to negotiate the best possible agreement which can be achieved given the significant budget deficit the State is facing. The parties are scheduled to meet next week on July 6th.
