SAN LUIS OBISPO – On June 17, 2026, representatives from the California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) and Hospital Police Association of California (HPAC) met with 25 cadets who are currently attending the California State Hospital Office of Protective Services (OPS) Police Academy in San Luis Obispo.
HPAC Board Members in attendance included President Luis Jimenez, Director Michael Hakker and Trustee Ezra Cosby. CSLEA Supervising Legal Counsel Dave De LaRiva and Member Services Representative Martin Deffee represented CSLEA. Also in attendance was CSLEA HPAC site representative Jennifer Chance.
CSLEA and HPAC provided the cadets with lunch and information regarding the benefits they receive as union members and answered any questions they had regarding union membership and employment-related questions.
“We welcome our newest HPAC/CSLEA members,” said CSLEA President Alan Barcelona. “No peace officer, or any public safety employee, should work without the safety net of a union. Thank you to our HPAC and CSLEA representatives who met with our newest members. To our newest members at the academy, we wish you the best during your training and stand ready to assist you.”
