During the week of May 18, 2026, California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) Member and Hospital Police Association of California (HPAC) Board Member Sergeant Bill Dumas of the Metropolitan State Hospital Police Department in Norwalk competed in the 2026 United States Police & Fire Championships.

Sergeant Dumas participated in six individual shotgun events, earning an impressive 13 medals, including the “B” Class High Overall Silver Medal. He also joined forces with CHP officers from the El Cajon Area office and Firefighter Adam Brazil of the Cosumnes Fire Department. Competing as Team Skeet Patrol, the team earned the Team High Overall Silver Medal.

Sergeant Dumas recently returned to competitive shotgun sports as a way to connect with his daughter, Lily, who is an accomplished competitive shooter. Lily competes as a collegiate athlete and coach for the Nashville Gun Club Juniors and is the first female collegiate athlete on the team. She was in town during the championships and was able to share a few pointers with the team.

While Sergeant Dumas’ 13-medal performance was an outstanding accomplishment, he admits he still has a long way to go before catching Lily’s impressive list of achievements.
