State Parks Ranger Apprehends Murder Suspect

Posted on July 2, 2026

TUOLUMNE COUNTY – On June 28, 2026, at approximately 7:15 p.m., the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting at a residence in the 17900 block of Lime Kiln Road in Sonora.  Once on scene, deputies began providing life-saving medical aid to the victim, Eric Brandon Udall, 60.  The victim was transported to a hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Through interviews with witnesses and evidence collected at the scene, investigators identified Timothy Allen Boling, 55, as the suspect. Boling fled the area immediately following the shooting.

Deputies and detectives worked throughout the night pursuing investigative leads and searching for Boling. Based on the investigation, detectives believe the incident began as a physical altercation and subsequently escalated into a shooting.

On the morning of June 29, 2026, the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office released a social media post identifying Boling as the homicide suspect. Shortly afterward, several community members contacted the Sheriff’s Office to report seeing him in the downtown Columbia area and within Columbia State Historic Park.

As patrol deputies responded to the area, they were advised that a California State Parks peace officer had located Boling and was holding him at gunpoint. Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office personnel arrived moments later and met with State Parks Officers who had safely taken Boling into custody without incident.

Boling is a convicted felon and is legally prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. At the time of this incident, he was also under Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS).

The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office extended its appreciation to the California State Parks ranger whose actions helped ensure Boling was taken into custody safely and without further incident.

“California State Parks rangers work daily to protect the public and enforce the law.  We are grateful to the ranger who was aware of the search for this suspected killer, responded to reported sightings, and ultimately took him into custody,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona.
