SAN GREGORIO BEACH – On the evening of August 2, 2026, first responders received a report of an 18-year-old in the lagoon area at San Gregorio State Beach in San Mateo County. According to CAL FIRE, the individual was submerged for a minimum of two minutes and was initially found unconscious, unresponsive, and not breathing. Bystanders immediately called 911 and began CPR.  The patient regained breathing and consciousness prior to the arrival of first responders.

CAL FIRE, Coastside Fire, San Mateo County Fire, La Honda Volunteer Fire Brigade, AMR, California State Parks, and REACH 32 all responded to the scene, and the patient was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

“What a fantastic outcome thanks to the quick response of those at the scene when this occurred.  It really highlights how incredibly lifesaving knowing CPR can be and how getting medical response to the scene to evaluate and transport can save someone’s life,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona.
