RED BLUFF – On February 1, 2017, Jessica Andromeda McCoy, 42, or Paynes Creek, was arrested on charges that she allegedly embezzled $300,000 from company funds at Gilchrist Properties LLC I Los Molinos and filed false tax returns and failed to file tax returns. The arrest follows two investigations, one by the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office and one by the California Franchise Tax Board.
McCoy was booked on:
- 33 counts of grand theft,
- 2 counts of willfully failing to file tax returns,
- 2 counts of intent to take property special allegation,
- 1 count of willfully filing false tax returns,
- 1 count aggravated white collar crime
McCoy is accused of embezzling $300,000 from Gilchrist Properties while working as its accountant for four years. The company contacted the Tehama County Sheriff’s Department after releasing her from employment in January 2016.
In conjunction with the sheriff department’s investigation, an investigator at the California Franchise Tax Board began looking into family taxes relating to McCoy. That investigation revealed a false tax return in 2014 and no tax returns filed in 2015 and 2016.
“Thankfully this illegal, suspected activity was brought to law enforcement’s attention,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona. “Franchise Tax Board investigators work year-round investigating those who don’t file their taxes and/or file fraudulent returns. We are al responsible for paying taxes to keep this great State and its programs operating.”
