Every year, the CHP honors its top officers, public safety dispatchers and non-uniformed employees. On May 29, 2013 the CHP Southern Division announced the winners among the nominees.
Congratulations to public safety dispatchers/nominees Kelly McConnell, Susan Haymond, Kimberly Guzman and Maria Lopez. Among these very committed dispatchers, Haymond was awarded the top honor as “Public Safety Dispatcher of the Year.”
Haymond has experienced more than some can imagine, from earthquakes, fires, snow, rain, floods and massive demonstrations. She has monitored high speed pursuits and takes pride in keeping watch over the safety of officers in the field.
“Our California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) members who are CHP public safety dispatchers are true professionals,” said CSLEA President Alan Barcelona. “Anyone who sees a CHP dispatcher in action walks away with respect and admiration for the jobs they perform, they are a tremendous group of people ready to help in stressful times involving emergencies.”
“There’s no question in my mind that CHP public safety dispatchers are among the best,” said Tina Brazil, CHP public safety dispatcher and president of the CHP Public Safety Dispatchers Association (CHP-PSDA). “These four dispatchers honored in the Southern Division were nominated by their peers, which speaks volumes for their skill as an emergency dispatcher, as leaders, trainers and co-workers. Congratulations to all of them. I’m very proud.”
