Congratulations to CSLEA Member and CHP Public Safety Dispatcher Jorge Bueno for receiving the Fresno CHP Communications Center 2014 Public Safety Dispatcher of the Year award.
Jorge is “home-grown,” born and raised in the Central Valley. He graduated from Madera High School and attended Fresno City College. Prior to joining the California Highway Patrol, he worked in property management. He joined the California Highway Patrol on November 10, 2008 as a CHP cadet. He then joined the CHP Fresno Communications as a public safety dispatcher. Jorge still plans to return to the CHP Academy to pursue his dream of becoming a CHP officer. Until then, Jorge is extremely happy doing his other dream job of a public safety dispatcher.
“Clearly Jorge Bueno has a passion for law enforcement and public safety,” said Tina Brazil, president of the CHP-Public Safety Dispatchers Association and Senior Vice President, CSLEA. “We congratulate him on receiving the award and thank him for his service.”
Jorge primarily works the graveyard shift, where he is no stranger to emergency traffic. This last year, Jorge handled a multi-area pursuit that began at 1:00 a.m. and lasted 1 hour and 21 minutes. Jorge remained calm, focused and transmitted all the pertinent information in a timely manner. Jorge is also bilingual, which is a great asset in the Central Valley.
“Our CHP public safety dispatchers have a tremendous responsibility that many are not aware of and that is officer safety,” said CSLEA President Alan Barcelona. “In addition to their 911 duties, they are a safety net for officers in the field.”
Jorge is happily married to his wife, Monica, and is the proud father of two beautiful children, Gavin (3) and Zach (1). Jorge serves as an excellent example to his peers when it comes to judgment, work ethic, professionalism and selflessness. He also maintains a great sense of humor and has an enormous amount of integrity. He volunteers to assist in a variety of duties to help better the Communications Center.
According to Jorge, now that he is older (26), he enjoys working in his yard and traveling with his family to the larger metropolitan areas.
