On Wednesday , May 7, 2014, California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona, Senior Vice President Tina Brazil and CSLEA Legislative Consultant Craig Brown met with State Senate Candidate Mike McGuire.
McGuire, a Sonoma County Supervisor, is campaigning to represent residents of the North Coast in the new 2nd District.
“Mike McGuire became involved in public office at a very young age and we look forward to exploring his views on issues that are important to members of CSLEA,” said CSLEA President Alan Barcelona. “He also has family members who are currently in law enforcement.”
During the meeting McGuire demonstrated a good depth of law enforcement background, partially gained from his time on the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors and partially gained from the many family members who serve in public safety.
He is committed to working out issues involving collective bargaining at the table. McGuire reported that Sonoma County spent 18 months working out pension issues at the table, and eventually worked out a solution that was acceptable to the bargaining units and met the County’s financial needs.
The CSLEA Board of Directors along with the Political Action Committee is monitoring this and all statewide, state legislative and requisite local campaigns and will continue to track their process in the months ahead. Best of Luck!
