On May 3, 2014, California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) leadership joined dozens of public safety and labor association leaders in honoring Assembly Speaker John Perez for his tenure and dedication to California’s legislature.
“Next week Assembly Speaker Perez hands the Speaker’s gavel to Speaker-Elect Toni Atkins,” said CSLEA President Alan Barcelona. “At the 17th Annual Speaker’s Cup, we recognized the Speaker’s commitment to policy-making and welcomed Majority Leader Toni Atkins to what will be her new role.”
The Speaker’s Cup is an annual fundraiser for the Democratic Party and a chance for CSLEA leadership to meet with legislators on a more social level.
“It is important for our members that we foster relationships with leading lawmakers. This networking event allows us to sit in a more relaxed environment, have a friendly conversation, get to know legislators better and chat about issues that are important to our members. When you represent public safety and consumer protection professionals who work for the State of California, you need to establish and nurture those very important rapports.” said Barcelona. “We thank Speaker Perez for his service as a California lawmaker and Speaker of the Assembly and look forward to working with Speaker-Elect Atkins.”
