In a letter to State Assembly Public Employees, Retirement and Social Security Committee Chairperson Rob Bonta, California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona has expressed CSLEA's opposition to Assembly Bill 537 (Assembly Member Allen).
"There are several reasons why CSLEA opposes AB 537," said Barcelona. "AB 537 addresses post retirement health care for government employees and its timeline bypasses the bargaining table. In addition, the bill could be interpreted to impact current employees, who have been promised post retirement health care throughout their careers. Breaking that promise is unfair to employees who have recognized that benefit as a part of their overall compensation package."
AB 537 would prohibit public agencies and employee organizations from entering into a memorandum of understanding after January 1, 2016 that provides pot employment health benefits without a strategy for permanently prefunding such benefits.
