On Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29, California Department of Justice Law Enforcement team #202 participated in the 31st Annual Baker to Vegas (B2V) Challenge Cup Relay. This is a rugged race through the Mojave desert for 120 miles, with temperatures ranging from 51 to 109 degrees. This year there was record heat. The race goes up and down hills through the desert, peaking at a summit of 5,500 feet and ends with the final runner, running through the doors of the Las Vegas convention center.
The team of 45 volunteers, which included 20 amazing runners, three alternates, drivers and assistants, finished incredibly well, with a finish time just under 19 hours. The team finished without penalties and despite the record heat, MUGGED! It was a very proud accomplishment for the team, which participated in the Invitational Mixed 800 category. The team did so well, they moved down in the ranks and in 2016 will be team #191.
B2V is one of the best venues for unifying law enforcement from all over the country and the world. Friendships and camaraderie are established within a two day, nail biting, but amazingly fun and positive atmosphere. It is truly a great experience for everyone involved.
DOJ LE team #202 would not have been able to compete if it had not been for the generous donation of ASA DOJ. Thank you ASA DOJ! And cheers!
