SAN BENITO COUNTY – On September 10, 2015, a San Juan Bautista man is scheduled to be arraigned on six counts of practicing medicine without a license and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon following his arrest in early September by investigators from the California Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA).
Investigators arrested Slave Petkovski, also known as “Doc” Petkovski, following a consumer complaint that was made to the California Acupuncture Board.
After an undercover investigation and search warrant, Petkovski is accused of treating patients at Petkovski Massage, Fitness and Spine Center in San Juan Bautista, using acupuncture and chiropractic procedures he is not licensed to provide. Petkovski is also accused of offering a medical procedure in which he injected saline into patients’ spinal cords.
The California Acupuncture Board, the San Benito County Sheriff’s Department and Investigators with the San Benito County District Attorney’s Office also assisted with this investigation.
“DCA investigators work to protect consumers from untrained, improperly trained and/or unlicensed people who, for some reason, perform health care procedures on patients,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona. “If consumers are at all suspicious about the credentials or services of those they seek care from, they should most definitely contact DCA.”
