DIAMOND BAR- Senior citizens in the City of Diamond Bar were in luck when they attended Senator Bob Huff’s Fraud Prevention Town Hall on September 28, 2015.  They learned from a panel of highly-qualified experts about the latest schemes, scams and rip-offs targeting their age groups and their community.

“Seniors are one the three groups most targeted by scammers,” said Town Hall Presenter and California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge 77 Vice President Kenny Ehrman.  “They, veterans and immigrants are taken advantage of far more frequently than the rest of the population.  That’s why we spend so much time going to community after community letting citizens know about the things scammers are doing to take their money.”

Joining Ehrman with presentations were California State Bar President-Elect Dave Pasternak, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Scroggin and Attorney at Educating Seniors Project Belle Paegel.  Citizens also got the opportunity to meet Senator Huff and City of Diamond Bar Mayor Steven Tye.

“During these town halls we cover a variety of topics,” said Ehrman.  “From identity theft, disabled placard fraud and phone scams, to indicators of a fraudulent lawyer and how to re-coop, to mortgage fraud.  We’ve even talked about insurance fraud and prescription fraud.  Seniors are a very polite and trusting group, we reaffirm for them that it is okay to say no, okay not to answer the door and okay to hang up the phone. “
