On October 26, 2015, National Fraternal Order of Police (NFOP) President Chuck Canterbury sent a letter to the Chairman and Ranking Member of the U.S. House Education and the Workforce Committee expressing NFOP’s strong support for H.R. 2350, the “Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship Act.”
H.R. 2350 would aid the children of law enforcement and other public safety officers who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting others. It would make a college education more affordable by increasing the amount of Pell Grants to the children of fallen police officers and other public safety officers by eliminating the Expected Family Contribution in the Pell Grant eligibility formula.
“This issue is important to every member of law enforcement who knows they may not see their family again when they leave for work,” wrote Canterbury. “This is the right thing to do to help these fallen heroes’ families, who took an oath to protect and serve. It is now time for us to stand up and protect the families they left behind.”
