SAN BERNARDINO- On December 3, 2015, California Attorney General Kamala Harris visited the scene of the mass shooting in San Bernardino and was briefed by San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon on the ongoing investigation. In addition, California Department of Justice, Division of Law Enforcement dedicated 24 special agents to assist local and federal law enforcement officers in coordinating investigative efforts and sharing intelligence and resources.
“There were several large crime scenes containing massive amounts of evidence and a tremendous number of people to interview,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona. “Investigating who these killers were, who their contacts are, where they obtained their weapons, tactical gear and explosives material is a huge undertaking. Who did they associate with, what were there plans, was anyone else involved, what can we learn to prevent attacks that others may be planning? Our DOJ special agents are a strong contribution to this investigation. “
In addition to DOJ special agents, investigators from the California Department of Insurance also assisted San Bernardino law enforcement. Some of the investigators assisted by interviewing witnesses, holding down perimeters as searches for suspects were conducted, and protecting the crime scene where the carnage took place.
“I am sincerely proud of our members and the work they do for the citizens of California,” said California Association of Criminal Investigators (CACI) President Frank Capetillo.
CSLEA would like to extend a sincere thank you to the men and women in law enforcement and the first responders who treated the injured for their heroic and selfless actions.
“This was a horrific scene and our members reached out to help in any way they were asked to,” said Barcelona. “They deserve a very big and sincere thank you, as do all of the law enforcement officers and first responders who assisted.”
