SACRAMENTO-Congratulations to California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) and Hospital Police Association of California (HPAC) Member Zybnek Jonak, a Patton State Hospital police officer who, on April 13, 2016, was presented with a “Special Acts of Service” award from the Department of State Hospitals at its annual Values Inspired Performance (VIP) awards ceremony in the auditorium of the Secretary of State building in Sacramento.
On November 10, 2015, with the help of other passers-by, Officer Jonak rescued a mother and her infant child from an overturned vehicle which was crushed and leaking gasoline. We invite you to watch the video below as Officer Jonak recounts the incident.
“Officer Jonak will humbly tell you he was just doing what any other passerby would do, but we all know that many people choose to drive on by,” said CSLEA President Alan Barcelona. “We would never have known about his involvement in this rescue had he not shown up to work with injuries to his arm. When his sergeant asked how he received the cuts to his arm, he relayed the story of helping a mother and her baby trapped in their overturned car. I’m sure the accident victim is extremely grateful to Officer Jonak and the others for assisting her in what had to be a very frightening time of need. We are very proud of him.”
