SACRAMENTO- On February 2, 2018, the California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) filed a grievance with the Department of State Hospitals seeking compensation for Hospital Police Officers (HPOs) from Napa, Atascadero, Metropolitan and Patton, who are being called upon to perform their duties assisting HPOs at Coalinga State Hospital.
The officers are required to work in three to four-day increments at CSH due to potential patient uprising. The filing of the grievance became necessary after officers made CSLEA aware of their work conditions which include strict geographical limitations on their movements, being required to respond in an unduly restrictive time period and not being advanced any money to spend on meals and personal needs.
CSLEA is seeking the payment of regular/full-time compensation (as opposed to on-call pay) for their work, as well as per diems.
