“We must never forget the sacrifices of our brethren, our fellow law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty. They, and their surviving family members, sacrificed it all and they are true heroes.” – CSLEA President Alan Barcelona
SACRAMENTO – On May 5-6, 2019, the California Peace Officers’ Memorial Foundation held its annual candlelight vigil and memorial enrollment ceremony honoring the men and women in California law enforcement who have fallen in the line of duty, and their surviving family members.
This year, eight California peace officers who died in 2018 were honored and their names placed on the Peace Officers Memorial across from the State Capitol. The ceremony is filled with emotion and respect with thousands in attendance including peace officers, their families, California’s governor and attorney general. Most importantly, the loved ones of officers killed attend to honor their hero and receive support.
“Losing one officer to violence and the duties of the job is losing one officer too many,” said CSLEA President Alan Barcelona. “California lost eight officers in 2018 and, to date, two in 2019. We must always remember their sacrifices and work to assist their families with the many hardships of moving forward without their loved ones.”
