SACRAMENTO – On January 13, 2020, California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona and the entire CSLEA Board extended their sincere appreciation and heartfelt recognition to CSLEA Director and California Association of Criminal Investigators (CACI) President Dennis Maffei for his more than eight years of service on the CSLEA Board of Directors.
“Director Maffei is a class act, someone who got involved in union leadership for all the right reasons, to improve the working environment, salary, and benefits for the investigators he represented as well as the entire bargaining unit,” said CSLEA President Alan Barcelona. “This is a person of integrity who has worked in law enforcement for decades and understands the difficulties and rewards of being a peace officer.”
Maffei served as CSLEA Director and CACI president from 2012 through January of 2020. During his tenure, Maffei was called upon in the contract negotiation process, consulted about legislation, met with legislative leaders and those in constitutional offices, and demonstrated his knowledge of and passion for peace officers and peace officer procedures.
“We are saying goodbye to a great advocate for public safety labor,” said CSLEA Unit-A Vice President Kenneth Ehrman.
“Dennis worked extremely hard for his affiliate and unified his members, supporting and encouraging their extra-curricular participation in community and law enforcement events,” said CSLEA Senior Vice President Tina Brazil. “His contribution to our board, our members and our bargaining unit is to be admired and we will greatly miss him. He leads by example and is an example of all things positive.”
As a CSLEA director, Maffei made decisions that impacted nearly 7,000 state employees and their families. He was called upon to vote on very important matters from policies to political endorsements to multi-year contracts.
Maffei thanked the board for being supportive of him and his affiliate and for always being responsive to problems that arose along the way.
The CACI Board will meet with its elected board members on January 25, 2020 at which time a president will be appointed. The CACI president will serve on the CSLEA board of directors.
