SAN DIMAS – On February 23, 2023, California Association of Criminal Investigators (CACI) President George Tiongson, CACI Director Doug Becker and California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) Supervising Counsel Dave De La Riva met with a group of new and more recently hired Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) Health Quality Investigation Unit (HQIU) investigators at the DCA HQIU office in San Dimas.
“This was a great opportunity for us to sit down with about a dozen investigators, provide lunch and introduce their union to them on a more personal basis,” said Tiongson. “It’s important that we share with new investigators the benefits and services of union membership and why it is so imperative to have access to a Legal Defense Fund (LDF). In addition, we wanted to discuss the collective bargaining process and some the many proposals that were submitted to CACI and CSLEA by members working at DCA.”
“Given the new law enforcement certification process in Senate Bill 2 and all that it entails, it is vital to a peace officer’s career to have union membership and, with it, a proven LDF,” said CSLEA President Alan Barcelona. “Sometimes, as peace officers begin their new careers or change departments, they are so overwhelmed with new information, they don’t give ample consideration to union membership and the safety net it provides. Thank you to CACI President George Tiongson, CACI Director Doug Becker, and CSLEA Supervising Counsel Dave De La Riva for taking the time to meet with the investigators. We wish them the best in their work at DCA.”
