SACRAMENTO – On September 22, 2023, the Fire Marshal and Emergency Services Association (FMESA) Board of Directors announced its decision to donate $500.00 in the name of Chief Ronny J. Coleman to the California Fire Museum.
Chief Coleman, retired State Fire Marshal, passed away on September 21, 2023 at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento. He devoted 60 years to the fire service, serving as California State Fire Marshal from 1992 to 2000. Prior to his fire marshal post, Coleman served as fire chief for the cities of San Clemente and Fullerton. He also served as president of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, led numerous fire service committees and associations, and authored 19 books. In 1999, he was named as one of the 20 Most Influential Fire Service Leaders of the 20th Century. Chief Coleman is survived by his wife, Marie, his son, Chris Coleman (North Carolina), his daughter, Lisa Coleman (Colorado), and their families.
“Today we extend our deepest sympathy to Chief Coleman’s family, friends and the firefighting community,” said FMESA President BJ Jones. “We hope FMESA’s donation in Chief Coleman’s memory provides some comfort to those who loved and respected him. We are all so appreciative of his public safety service and contributions throughout California.”
