WEST SACRAMENTO – When dispatchers training at the CHP Academy in West Sacramento were presented with the opportunity to join and support the labor union that represents their job classification, 14 of them jumped at the chance to sign up for membership.
“We spoke to an enthusiastic group of dispatchers on March 4th for what we at the California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) call a new employee orientation. This is a chance for union representatives like myself to introduce the benefits and services that our members receive,” said CSLEA Senior Counsel Andrea Perez.
Perez was joined by CHP-Public Safety Dispatchers Association (CHP-PSDA) Vice President Victor Tovar who talked about the importance of union membership for public safety personnel. Tovar, a dispatcher himself, has seen the important work that CSLEA and CHP-PSDA conduct for all of its members, including public safety dispatchers.
“These first responders will be working in CHP Communication Centers if Vallejo, Rancho Cordova, Merced, Barstow, Los Angeles and Indio,” said Perez. “There is much to learn in the stressful but rewarding career they have chosen and we are a great network of support. It doesn’t take long for dispatchers to realize that having CSLEA as their career partner is a smart choice.”
CSLEA and CHP-PSDA welcome its 14 new members and wishes them much success in their training and careers.
