“State Parks peace officer lifeguards are vital to the safety and rescue of park visitors who suddenly find themselves in need of protection, rescue and/or life-saving efforts. They are sworn peace officers with expertise in water rescues. We thank them for their public safety service protecting visitors to State Parks.”

MALIBU CREEK STATE PARK – On March 16, 2024, at approximately 9:00 a.m., State Parks peace officer lifeguards responded to a call at Malibu Creek State Park regarding a hiker with a broken ankle incurred from a fall into a rock pool.
Upon arrival to the scene, peace officer lifeguards determined that the only way to access and transport the patient to safety was via a water rescue.
Officer Del Castillo entered the water with aquatic rescue equipment, stabilized the patient, and successfully transported the patient out of the rock pool, where the patient was then transferred to further care.
Additional State Parks peace officers aided the rescue with communication assistance and ground transport.
