BIG SUR – On May 3, 2024 at approximately 3:50 p.m., Big Sur Fire (BSF) was dispatched to a structure fire at the Big Sur Bakery & Restaurant. Prior to arrival, crews saw a large column of black smoke and immediately requested additional personnel to respond.
The building was well involved and threatened two nearby galleries, an event space, and several homes. Crews aggressively fought the fire which took about an hour to fully extinguish. In total, 12 BSF personnel with their engine and water tender worked hard to douse the blaze and contained it to the building and an adjacent shed. In addition, AMR, CHP, State Parks and USFS assisted BSF.
“First responders, such as State Parks rangers, are quick to assist in emergencies and understand the importance of mutual aid. We are thankful no one was hurt in this fire and it was contained to the one building and shed,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona.
The building suffered severe damage as a result of the fire. There were no injuries to either first responders or bystanders. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
