BERKELEY- On June 17, 2024, CALFIRE announced the arrest of Casey Robert Goonan, 34, of Oakland in connection with the firebombing attack of a UC Berkeley Police Department vehicle and three other arson attacks on UC Berkeley campus during the month of June 2024.
The June 17th arrest was the result of an investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) Arson and Bomb Unit, in collaboration with the University of California (UC), Berkeley Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Multiple felony charges include the possession and use of destructive devices and multiple counts of arson. Goonan was being held at the Alameda County Jail on one-million-dollars bail.
“This is an example of local, state and federal law enforcement officers using their various expertise and investigative tools to protect people and property. They deserve our thanks and appreciation,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona.
