MENDOCINO COUNTY – On July 11, 2024, at approximately 8:06 p.m., the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office communications center received a 911 call from Pan Jasper Brady, 47, reporting that he had just shot Kevin Taeuffer, 54, from Annapolis at a location in Point Arena. Brady reported that he had been in an argument with Taeuffer, retrieved a handgun and shot the victim. Brady secured the firearm while awaiting the arrival of responding law enforcement officers.
Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office deputies and California State Parks peace officers responded. Due to safety concerns related to the nature of the call, medical personnel staged in the area awaiting law enforcement. Upon the arrival of law enforcement officers, the victim was found to have succumbed from injuries that included at least one gunshot wound. Brady was detained and Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office detectives responded to take over the investigation. Brady was ultimately arrested and booked into the Mendocino County Jail on a charge of homicide, and an additional charge for using a firearm during the commission of a homicide.
“California State Parks peace officers not only patrol and protect the public at State Parks, they also provide back up and response to local law enforcement officers, especially in areas where local back up may be further away,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Associations (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona. “We appreciate their service as law enforcement officers and their quick assistance to help in times of emergency response.”
