SAN LUIS OBISPO – On August 1, 2024, representatives from the California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) and the Hospital Police Association of California (HPAC) met with 18 hospital police cadets in the academy at San Luis Obispo Army Base Camp SLO.
Speaking to the cadets were HPAC Directors Ezra Cosby, Jennifer Chance and Michael Hakker, along with CSLEA Membership Representative Marco Castro.
“It was great meeting the cadets and informing them about the protections the union membership provides,” said Castro. “We stressed the importance of being a CSLEA member and talked about the benefits and services provided. Ezra Cosby shared on-the-job experiences and issues that hospital police officers encounter while working at state hospitals.”
The cadets were advised of the $15,000 basic life insurance plan that all CSLEA members receive, CSLEA’s proven Legal Defense Fund (LDF), CSLEA’s exclusive membership discounts program and the PORAC benefits, including healthcare plans, that CSLEA peace officer members have access to.
“Given the current challenges facing sworn peace officers in California and the country, no peace officer should be without the safety net that union membership and a Legal Defense Fund provide. No peace officer should ever go it alone when confronted by management or a citizen complaint. One of the best career decisions a peace officer can make is to be a member of the union that represents their job classification,” said CSLEA President Alan Barcelona.
