HUNTINGTON BEACH – On October 7, 2024, the California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) announced the hiring of Senior Legal Counsel Kja Harper-Gopaul. Harper-Gopaul is joining the CSLEA legal team in its Southern California office based in Huntington Beach, in preparation for the retirement of CSLEA Senior Counsel Jim Vitko.
“Although it will be hard to replace the value that Jim Vitko brought to our organization, CSLEA is excited to have Ms. Harper-Gopaul join the CSLEA Legal Team,” said CSLEA Chief Counsel Kasey Clark. “She will bring a fresh perspective to the work that we do.”
“I recognize I have a great legacy to continue with the retirement of Jim Vitko. I believe my dedication to being a passionate and hardworking advocate will allow me to wholeheartedly serve CSLEA members,” said Harper-Gopaul.
Prior to her employment at CSLEA, Harper-Gopaul worked at an AM 15 law firm, where she represented a large financial institution in consumer litigation matters. While at the AM 15 law firm, she was involved in the firm’s pro bono practice, which focused on representing individuals seeking asylum in the United States. Harper-Gopaul has obtained significant experience representing companies and public entities in all stages of litigation and arbitration. Her experience includes successfully arguing dispositive motions on behalf of public entities and public employees; and second chairing an arbitration on behalf of a ridesharing company.
Ms. Harper-Gopaul received her Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies, with a minor in Public Policy, from the University of California- Santa Barbara. She earned her Juris Doctorate from Washington and Lee School of Law. While in law school, she was a student caseworker in the Advanced Administrative Litigation Clinic, where she represented coal miners and survivors in front of the Department of Labor.
Outside of work, Ms. Harper-Gopaul enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and listening to podcasts. She also maintains an active lifestyle by running and going to spinning classes.
