RANCHO CUCAMONGA – On October 30, 2024, California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) Senior Counsel Jim Vitko met with California Department of Insurance (CDI) detectives at CDI’s Rancho Cucamonga office to discuss CSLEA’s role in responding to officer involved shootings.

As an invited participant, Vitko addressed the protocol CSLEA follows when the union is advised of an OIS.  An investigator with the San Bernardino District Attorney’s Office was also present to discuss the DA’s role in criminal investigations involving officer involved shootings as well as members of the CHP Special Investigations Team who discussed the administrative investigation. 

“I discussed how the Legal Defense Fund (LDF) works and answered general questions about the process should a member be involved in a critical incident. The meeting was well attended and well received,” said Vitko.
