1st Place in Building Search Scenario at the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department 27th K-9 Trials
NORCO – On November 8, 2024, CALFIRE Office of State Fire Marshal Arson and Bomb Investigator Nicholas Schroeder and K-9 Flash participated in the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department 27th K-9 Trials in Norco. Arson and Bomb Investigator Schroeder and K-9 Flash competed against approximately 30 other canine teams from within California and across the nation, placing first in the Building Search Scenario.
This victory is greatly celebrated because it was just nine months ago when CALFIRE announced the return of the Canine Unit to the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM). Investigator Schroeder began training with K-9 Flash in July 2023.
Schroeder and K-9 Flash assist in arson and bomb investigations, assist allied agencies, and conduct sweeps at major events.
Schroeder is a member of California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) and serves as 1st vice president on the Fire Marshal and Emergency Services Association (FMESA) Board.
“Congratulations to Investigator Schroeder and K-9 Flash on a competition well-done! He and his K-9 partner work to keep Californians safe from harm. We are fortunate to have them at OSFM and assisting law enforcement departments throughout the state,” said CSLEA President Alan Barcelona.
