Special guests include six candidates for California governor

SACRAMENTO – California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) officers and directors met at CSLEA headquarters on February 11, 2025 for their first quarter board meeting. In addition to receiving updates from consultants and staff, the board had the opportunity to listen to presentations from, and ask questions of, six candidates currently seeking election for the Governor of California.

“This will be a crowded field as November 2026 approaches, and we as union leaders want to interview the candidates so that we make an endorsement decision that helps to elect the candidate that shares the visions of CSLEA and its members,” said CSLEA President Alan Barcelona. “Our questions focused on labor, public safety, retirement, recruitment, pay, housing, insurance, the high cost of living in California, and working with legislators on both sides of the aisle. We sincerely thank each candidate for spending a full 30 minutes with us.”

The candidates who met with CSLEA directors:
Assemblymember Tom Lackey – AD 34
Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond
Former State Controller Betty Yee
Honorable Antonio Villaraigosa
Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco
Former Speaker and Pro Tem Tony Atkins
Each candidate thanked CSLEA directors for their law enforcement, public safety and consumer protection work for the State of California and acknowledge that CSLEA represents a broad group of enforcement professionals.
