SAN ONOFRE STATE BEACH – On March 19, 2025, California State Park rangers notified the Orange County Sheriff’s Department that they had located the man suspected of stabbing a sheriff’s deputy in the neck the day before as she conducted homeless outreach in San Clemente.
The deputy was on foot patrol around 2:15 in the afternoon conducting routine homeless outreach near the 1700 block of Avenida Estacion in San Clemente. After about 30 minutes, the deputy notified dispatch that she had been stabbed by a known transient.
The suspect was described as white man in his mid-30s with brown hair, blue eyes and a beard, approximately 5’10” and 160lbs, wearing a black jacket and dark pants. He was last seen running toward the storm drain near Avenida Pico and El Camino Real.
Deputies responded and provided aid to the injured deputy who sustained a non-life threatening injury. She was transported to the hospital with a laceration to her neck. Deputies searched the area for the known suspect and were unable to locate him.
The following day, the suspect, identified as Moses Paulisin, 35, was located at San Onofre State Beach by California State Park Rangers. Paulisin faces charges of attempted murder, resisting arrest, and assault with a deadly weapon.
The injured deputy was treated at the hospital and released, and is expected to fully recover.
