On March 7, 2025, representatives from the California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) and the California Organization of Licensing Registration Examiners (COLRE) met with licensing registration examiners (LREs) at Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offices in Ventura and Arleta to discuss concerns voiced by COLRE members who work there.
“Some of our LREs at these particular drive test centers expressed concerns as they relate to health and safety,” said COLRE President Enrique Razo who visited the site, along with CSLEA Senior Counsel Kja Harper-Gopaul. “At the Ventura commercial skills site, which is located several miles away from the DMV office, remnants of drug paraphernalia are often found where the commercial skills site is located. At the Arleta office, the situation is the same, and became extremely frightening when a man armed with a machete accused the examiners of stealing his drugs. We also discussed several labor issues. The safety of our members is our top priority.”
CSLEA and COLRE thank all LREs for the public safety service they provide in conducting drive examinations, and thank those union members who discussed their concerns with union representatives on March 7th.
