MANTECA – On April 30, 2025, criminalists from the California Department of Justice responded to the scene of an officer involved shooting that happened at approximately 5:05 p.m. at the In-N-Out Burger parking lot, located at 1490 E Yosemite Avenue in Manteca.
According to the Manteca Police Department, officers responded to a disturbance involving a male driver in a white van in the restaurant’s drive-thru line. Upon contact, the suspect rammed a police vehicle. After about 20 minutes of trying to de-escalate the situation, the suspect again rammed at least two police vehicles. Officers then discharged their firearms.
The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital. No officers were injured during the incident.
Per standard procedure, the San Joaquin County Officer Involved Critical Incident Protocol was enacted. The protocol ensures a thorough and impartial investigation involving multiple independent agencies. The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office, the California Department of Justice Crime Lab and the Manteca Police Department are jointly investigating the incident.
The condition of the suspect was not immediately known.
“California DOJ criminalists respond to officer involved shootings when called upon to lend their expertise in processing scenes, and collecting and evaluating evidence. Day or night, they are called to assist at scenes such as this. We thank them for their service and dedication to public safety and criminal justice,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona.
