SACRAMENTO – At the request of Nicholas Schroeder, 1st Vice President of the Fire Marshals & Emergency Services Association (FMESA), representatives from the California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) were present at CALFIRE’S all-hands meeting for deputy state fire marshals in Sacramento, May 13, 2025. An all-hands means all deputy state fire marshals and arson and bomb investigators in the state are required to attend, including brand new hires.
Representing CSLEA were Senior Counsel Andrea Perez and Membership Services Representative Marco Castro.

Always supportive of CSLEA/FMESA members, Schroeder set up an opportunity in which CSLEA/FMESA members in attendance were able to meet with State Fire Marshal Daniel Berlant separate from the day’s events. Schroeder also arranged for CSLEA, CLEA and CALVET be there during lunch to answer questions that any union members had and be available for any non-members to sign up for union membership.

“I represent the DSFM job classification as a CSLEA attorney in Northern California, so it was a great opportunity to meet with so many members, many of whom I know well, and then to meet others who aren’t as familiar with their CSLEA contact. We very much appreciated the opportunity to be present during the lunch hour,” said Perez. “We are grateful to Nick Schroeder for facilitating this and for serving on the FMESA board.”
