LODI – On June 20, 2025 at approximately 11:17 p.m., a Lodi Police Officer witnessed a vehicle being driven recklessly and endangering the public in the area of S. Cherokee Lane and E. Vine Street. The officer, in a marked police vehicle, activated emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle continued driving recklessly and led the officer on a brief pursuit. The suspect vehicle ultimately crashed and rolled over on its roof as it entered southbound Highway 99 at the on-ramp at Cherokee Lane and Century Blvd.
Officers located two occupants in the vehicle. The passenger was able to exit the vehicle and was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and released. The driver was still in the vehicle. Officers got him out and render aid until Lodi Fire and AMR personnel arrived on scene. The driver, a 19-year-old male, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver’s name is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
In accordance with the San Joaquin County Officer Incident Protocol, the investigation is being conducted by members of the Lodi Police Department, San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office, California DOJ, and the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office. The California Highway Patrol is conducting the fatal traffic collision investigation.
