WEST SACRAMENTO – In an effort to inform new CHP dispatchers training at the Academy in West Sacramento about the benefits of union membership, a representative from the California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) and from the CHP-Public Safety Dispatchers Association (CHP-PSDA) hosted a new employee orientation on June 9, 2025.
During the orientation, veteran CHP dispatcher and CHP-PSDA Vice President Victor Tovar shared his experiences over the years, and provided examples on how the union has provided assistance and services to its members.
CSLEA Senior Counsel Andrea Perez, who represents the CHP public safety dispatcher and operator job classifications for CSLEA, spoke to the dispatchers about the benefits and services union membership provides, including access to a CSLEA attorney, a $15,000 basic life insurance plan, the ability to vote on contracts, access to insurance plans at CSLEA group rates, a CSLEA discounts program and scholarship opportunities.
“This is really a great environment to say hello and meet some of our newest members and answer questions about union membership,” said Perez. “We met some wonderful public safety professionals today and we’re excited to assist them throughout their careers.”
