HUMBOLDT COUNTY – On July 13, 2025, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Special Services Division recovered the body of a deceased male in the Klamath River. Following notification of next of kin, the deceased was identified as Shawn Nomura, who had fallen into the river two days prior.
On July 12-13th, a multi-agency search effort worked tirelessly to locate Nomura. HCSO expressed its gratitude for the commitment and collaboration of the following teams and agencies:
- HCSO Search and Rescue Team,
- Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES),
- California Department of Fish and Wildlife,
- California Highway Patrol,
- Yurok Tribe with airborne and submersible drones,
- Hoopa Tribal agencies,
- Yuba County with towable sonar,
- Butte County with side scan sonar and a submersible drone,
- Napa County with a submersible drone,
- U.S. Coast Guard,
- Cal Fire with Helitack support,
- and the California Rescue Dog Association (CARDA) with water and land K9s.
