Criminalists at California DOJ’s forensic lab assisted with evidence and trial testimony
UKIAH – On July 15, 2025, a Mendocino County Superior Court found Julian Canul Tun, 43, of Fort Bragg, guilty of driving his motor vehicle on South Corry Street in Fort Bragg in October 2024 under the influence of alcohol, and driving his motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 percent or greater, both crimes being misdemeanors.
The jury also found true a special allegation charged by the district attorney that alleged that the defendant’s blood alcohol concentration at the time of the driving was even higher — .15 percent or greater.
The evidence explained to the jury was that the defendant’s blood alcohol concentration was determined to be .31/.32 percent at the time he was driving.
The law enforcement agencies whose personnel provided witness testimony at the trial were the Fort Bragg Police Department and the California Department of Justice’s forensic laboratory.
“Criminalists at the California Department of Justice examine evidence and often testify in court, explaining to jurors the process in evaluating evidence and coming to the conclusions that were reached. They have an important role in criminal justice and keeping us safe,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona.
