RIVERSIDE – On July 29, 2025, CHP dispatchers training at the Ben Clark Training Center in Riverside met with Steve Fulton, secretary-treasurer for the CHP Public Safety Dispatchers Association (CHP-PSDA) to learn about the protection and services associated with union membership.

Fulton is also a public safety dispatcher at the CHP Indio Communications Center which makes him an excellent source of information for those training to become CHP dispatchers and wanting to learn more about becoming union members.   He is able to discuss the realities of being a dispatcher and why union protection is a huge safety net.   “Just like insurance, it’s too late to sign up after you have had an accident,” said Fulton.

“Steve works very hard to inform new colleagues about the coverage, protection, representation and safety net they need as they perform their public safety, first responder work,” said CSLEA President Alan Barcelona.  “He welcomes new dispatchers and invites them to join the CSLEA family.  CSLEA members know that together we are better, stronger, and more efficient in enhancing pay and benefits, making improvements to the workplace, protecting retirement, and protecting each member.  Each of our members can pick up their phone and speak to one of our CSLEA attorneys about any work-related questions or problems they are experiencing.  We’re here to help.”

Fulton welcomed five new dispatchers to union membership.  The dispatchers will be working in The Golden Gate, orange County and Yreka CHP communication centers.
